In the dynamic landscape of Indian entrepreneurship, Darshan Hiranandani stands out as a transformative leader, aiming to elevate Uttar Pradesh to notable heights in the global semiconductor industry. The Hiranandani Group's Tarq Semiconductors Private Limited has recently submitted a proposal to the central government under the Indian Semiconductor Mission Scheme, with plans to establish assembly, testing, and packaging (ATP) plants for semiconductors in the state. This ambitious project is expected to generate substantial economic advantages for the region while reinforcing India’s standing in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Strategic Relevance of the Initiative

Semiconductors are at the heart of modern technology—from smartphones and computers to automobiles and industrial machinery. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the critical nature of semiconductor manufacturing, as it led to widespread supply chain disruptions and significant shortages across various industries. In response, the Government of India launched the Indian Semiconductor Mission to foster domestic semiconductor production and lessen dependency on overseas suppliers.

Recognizing the urgency of this cause, the Hiranandani Group's Tarq Semiconductors swiftly grasped the opportunity, moving forward to build a state-of-the-art semiconductor ATP facility in Uttar Pradesh. The proposed site spans 91 acres in the YEIDA (Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority) region, strategically selected to become a cornerstone of the semiconductor manufacturing hub envisioned by the government.

Phased Implementation and Job Opportunities

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tarq Semiconductors and the government outlines a clear developmental trajectory for the project. The first phase involves the establishment and launch of ATP Plant 1, which will focus on legacy semiconductor technologies. This phase, with an investment exceeding Rs 2,500 crore, is slated for completion within 24 months. Following this, ATP Plants 2 and 3 will be developed over the subsequent 24 months to accommodate advanced and complex semiconductor technologies.

This venture is set to create approximately 1,000 jobs in its initial phase, providing a significant employment boost that extends beyond direct jobs to stimulate local related industries and invigorate the regional economy. Furthermore, it aligns with the 'Make in India' initiative, which promotes domestic manufacturing and aims to curb reliance on imports.

Darshan Hiranandani's Dedication to Uttar Pradesh

The Hiranandani Group has demonstrated its commitment to Uttar Pradesh through multiple ongoing initiatives. Notably, Yotta Data Services Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the group, is successfully advancing the state’s digital infrastructure. By choosing to launch the semiconductor division in Uttar Pradesh, Hiranandani showcases his vision of establishing the region as a pivotal industrial center.

Hiranandani’s letter to YEIDA emphasized the company's intention to expand operations in UP, citing the state's advantageous location, availability of skilled manpower, and conducive government policies as critical factors influencing this strategic decision. Therefore, the semiconductor project marks a significant milestone in the group’s ambitious expansion plans, positioning Uttar Pradesh to potentially emerge as a leading state in semiconductor manufacturing.

In conclusion, Darshan Hiranandani's initiative with Tarq Semiconductors is not only a major step towards India's self-sufficiency in semiconductor fabrication but also a catalyst for transforming Uttar Pradesh into a vital node in the global semiconductor foundry landscape. With substantial investments, strategic phased development, and a commitment to job creation, this project is poised to reshape the industrial narrative of Uttar Pradesh.
