Darshan Hiranandani : Yotta NM1: Launch of Asia's Second-Largest Tier IV Data Center in Navi Mumbai

In July 2020, Yotta Infrastructure drew significant attention with the debut of Yotta NM1, hailed as the world's second-largest Tier IV data center, situated in Navi Mumbai. This impressive facility is part of a broader vision for an integrated data center park being developed by Yotta, a subsidiary of the Hiranandani Group, which seeks to transform India's data center landscape.

Yotta NM1: A Cutting-Edge Facility

Occupying a staggering 820,000 square feet, Yotta NM1 is designed to host 7,200 racks and is equipped with a robust power capacity of 50 MW. The facility adheres to the highest performance standards in data center operations, having earned Tier IV certification from the Uptime Institute. This esteemed certification signifies total fault tolerance with an uptime of 99.995%, allowing for a maximum downtime of merely 26.3 minutes per year. The infrastructure features numerous redundant systems that eliminate single points of failure, thereby ensuring exceptional reliability for essential applications.

Strategically positioned in Panvel, the data center is conveniently located near the bustling cities of Mumbai and Pune, enhancing accessibility for businesses in these metropolitan areas. Yotta NM1 is the first of five data center buildings envisioned within the Yotta Data Center Park, which, when completed, will offer a total of 30,000 racks and an aggregated power capacity of 250 MW. This substantial infrastructure is designed to support global cloud service providers, content delivery networks, and enterprises in need of comprehensive data management solutions.

Environmental Sustainability and Technological Innovation

Beyond its technological prowess, Yotta NM1 exemplifies a commitment to sustainability. The facility is powered by a blend of traditional and renewable energy sources, including an in-house solar power plant and a gas-based co-generation plant. This dedication to green energy reflects global sustainability trends and positions Yotta as an innovative leader within the data center sector.

Darshan Hiranandani, Group CEO of the Hiranandani Group, highlighted the significance of energy efficiency and sustainability in the Yotta NM1 design. He mentioned the facility's goal of achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.2, which is considerably lower than the industry standard, especially relevant in tropical climates like India. This emphasis on operational efficiency not only curtails costs but also lessens the environmental footprint of data center operations.

Future Expansion and Investment Strategy

In conjunction with the Navi Mumbai data center, Yotta Infrastructure has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to create a new data center campus in Chennai. This ambitious project represents an investment of ₹4,000 crore, showcasing Yotta's intention to broaden its presence across India. The Chennai facility is anticipated to offer capabilities similar to that of Yotta NM1, further bolstering the company’s capacity to meet the growing demand for robust data services in the region.

The strategic move to expand into Chennai allows Yotta to leverage the thriving tech ecosystem in southern India. With digital transformation efforts accelerating due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for dependable data center services is rising sharply. Yotta's timely expansion aims to fulfill this demand, providing businesses with essential infrastructure to support their digital endeavors.

Darshan Hiranandani : Yotta NM1 symbolizes the vast potential of the Indian data center market. With its state-of-the-art technology, focus on sustainability, and strategic plans for growth, Yotta Infrastructure is well-positioned to be a significant player in the evolution of data management in India. As the need for digital solutions escalates, Yotta's initiatives are set to play a crucial role in propelling the country's technological advancement, establishing itself as a key contributor in the global data center arena.
